Designing & Creating Special Products

Crest was proud to supply clay-facing bricks and roofing tiles to the Goldsmith Street Project, which won the RIBA Stirling Prize 2019 for Britain’s Best Building.

The Crest team was delighted to provide expert advice on this innovative social housing project. Many year’s experience and understanding of the requirements needed for a project of this magnitude proved invaluable when working alongside Architects Mikhail Riches.  This partnership created high-quality facing bricks and a bespoke roofing system, for the mix of 45 houses and 60 flats on this exciting project.

Nelissen brick manufacturers and Crest presented a selection of buff and grey bricks from their extensive portfolio range. A blend of 2 brick types was chosen, Belgravia Buff Multi and Grosvenor Grey Multi, the mix of facing bricks created a unique bespoke blend.

The complex roofing system created some technical challenges for Crest. The angles on the pitched roof required a specially engineered clay tile to form the beautiful roofscape with the roll of the tile pattern being read at both the mansard and ridge junctions a challenge set by the architects for Crest to deliver.

The team created a bespoke roofing tile, carefully designed at exactly 70º angle H14 interlocking black gloss clay pantile which flowed without interruption continuously from eave to ridge, it was a perfect match for this special project.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Through continuing professional development (CPD), Crest is committed to supporting architects, developers and construction experts with opportunities to maintain and expand their professional skills and knowledge.

We offer many types of CPD activities including conferences, training and workshops on our range of building products and services. One of our latest projects included some PV Solar Installation Training for regional house builder Ward Homes Yorkshire.

Crest along with their manufacturing partner Nelskamp attended the new site in Hornsea, East Yorkshire, where the Crest team met with the site's management, roofing contractors and electrical teams.

The developers constructed a temporary roof for the training which allowed the Nelskamp technical team to show the quick and simple installation of the Solar Panels and how the “Plugin” easy-to-fix MC4 connections are fitted.

The Folly is Ward Homes Yorkshire’s next development comprising 60 new energy-efficient homes each benefiting from Crest Nelskamp Planum Concrete Roof Tiles and Integrated Solar System. The Crest team are committed to supporting them in this exciting project.
