CREST'S BRICKS AND ROOF TILES CHOSEN FOR LANDMARK PROJECT
10 Dec 2025
Crest’s Norfolk Antique and H14 clay interlocking pantile was the chosen brick and roof tile for Duncombe Square, a modern and contemporary new housing project at the former Duncombe Barracks in York.
Duncombe Square has been designed with a variety of 34 high-quality Passivhaus homes and beautiful outdoor spaces, and is one of the country’s largest Passivhaus schemes, offering a mix of 1-bedroom apartments and 2, 3, and 4-bedroom terraced houses.
The Crest team were delighted to work with Stirling Prize-winning architects, Mikhail Riches, on this landmark development. The Norfolk Antique is a multi-style brick with subtle textures to the face, with soft red shades with pale yellow, and white highlights.
The Norfolk Antique offers a blend of traditional brickwork with a contemporary twist, incorporating render and complemented with Crest’s H14 red/brown coloured roof tile, a superbly engineered interlocking clay pantile. Crest building products created an attractive, enduring look that complements the local area.
Building contractor Caddick Construction is delivering the City of York Council’s first-ever zero-carbon homes at Duncombe Square in York. The landmark development forms part of the council’s housing delivery programme, which aims to create 600 new homes across the city.
